Talk Title: #DepictionsMatter: Crafting A Culturally Authentic Story
Cannes, France (virtual). With delegates in attendance from Turkey, Italy, Canada and the U.S. in the session, Michele led an interactive talk/roundtable discussion engaging participants in actively finding ways to create culturally authentic nonfiction story (particularly when you’re not from the culture you are capturing on film). Where can we improve as storytellers and ensure that the stories we are pursuing become relentlessly authentic and dynamically engaging— rather than culturally insensitive in their depictions and utterly frustrating for audiences to bear?
