Our docuseries, FLINT TOWN, airs March 2, 2018 on Netflix. Announced today! Such a hard secret to keep!!!
We had a wrap-party (in December) and looked back into our rear view mirrors on the many months, hours, days, lunches, DINNERS, dog walks (shout-out to Scooter & Miss Muppet❤️) and minutes we spent together laboring over and loving on an 8-part documentary series we were producing with Anonymous Content for Netflix. Our project is a character-driven ensemble piece looking at policing in America through the lens of the Flint Michigan Police Department and the searing lens of the resilient yet (for many) understandably fed-up residents of Flint. Everyone was surprisingly candid, in their own way.
While filming, our crew lived where we worked. For me, after three days of showering in the Flint water, my face broke out a bit. (Pretty sure that was from the heavily chlorinated light-blue shower water flowing from my hotel showerhead. Chlorine doesn’t kill lead poisoning obvs. But handled other things.) So after that, I went the route of pouring cups of microwaved bottled water over myself to lather/rinse each morning instead. Yet, imagine what the community is dealing with every day?! Every.single.day…STILL. It was humbling, sobering, horrifying, infuriating and unifying. We touch on the water crisis in the project a bit— as this crisis has clearly put stress (and more) on the residents and the officers alike.
Gorgeously shot by three directors. Expertly handled by our spectacular story team. Slayed in the edit bay by our excellent editors and delivered safely to Netflix by (seriously) one of THE best post/admin teams any production could EVER dream of having. So organized…and there was a healthy ton of material to keep organized (!!!). We really did have THIS great of a team— professional, supportive, GENUINELY FUN and positive people (even when we were utterly pissed off about something or another…"What time is that screening actually starting, since whichever-one-of-us now can't make it when?!?!" or "What, no more gluten-free bread in the kitchen?" 😊). We cared a BUNCH about the project we were making… and also eating... sometimes *not* in this exact order 😂 hahahahahaha
We had really good humans and doggies on this journey! Thanks to these really good humans & doggies for a really good ride. xo
